MARGUERITE WOODSTOCK RILEY Q.C. LL.B (Hons) M.Phil (Cantab)

Marguerite Woodstock Riley Q.C. attained her LLB degree with Upper Second Class Honours from the University of the West Indies in 1980 and her Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School in 1982. In 1985 she was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship and obtained her Masters Degree from the University of Cambridge, (Trinity Hall).

LEGAL CAREER

She is admitted to practice in Barbados, Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada and has had legal attachments to law firms in Jamaica, Washington DC, USA and the Turks and Caicos Islands. She has established her own law chambers in Barbados and Jamaica and has two associate Attorneys-at-Law.

Mrs. Woodstock Riley Q.C. has extensive experience in civil litigation in the High Court and Court of Appeal, and has also appeared before the Caribbean Court of Justice.

Clients have included regional and international institutions, financial institutions, insurance companies, airline owners, ship owners, media institutions, hotels, architects, electrical contractors. She has experience in arbitration proceedings and practical management of contractual and construction disputes.

In 2009 she was honored to be appointed as a Queens Counsel and has acted as a Judge of The Supreme Court of Barbados. In 2021 she was appointed a Judge of the Court of Appeal of Belize, an itinerant position. She was Chairperson of the Barbados Legal Profession Disciplinary Committee and has appeared on behalf of the Committee in disciplinary proceedings in the Court of Appeal. She participated in the Regional Justice Sector Reform Project: “Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean” a project as its ultimate outcome, enhanced access to justice benefitting men, women, youth and businesses in 13 CARICOM (Caribbean) Member States.

She is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, an Academy of lawyers practicing internationally in the jurisdiction of matrimonial and family law. It recognises the diversity of laws of sovereign states and increasing multinational jurisdictional issues.
She is also a listed Attorney with Reunite International, recognised as the leading United Kingdom charity specialising in international parental child abduction and the movement of children across international borders.

Mrs. Woodstock Riley Q.C. was the first non-United Kingdom based President of Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Ireland. She is a member and legal adviser of the Barbados Cancer Society Breast Screening Committee, and also a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society Barbados Branch and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association.

She was also appointed by the Government of Barbados as the Chairperson for the National Advisory Council on Family Matters.

Marguerite Woodstock Riley Q.C. has travelled extensively in the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa and Asia and has spoken in various forums on a variety of issues. She has made presentations to the Jamaican and Barbadian Bar Associations, the Judiciary and Legal Profession of the Caribbean, acted as a second examiner for the Masters in Law at the University of the West Indies, has provided expert opinion to the Court in the United Kingdom and advised foreign government agencies.

AMANDA RILEY-JORDAN LL.B (Hons) LL.M (Hons)

Amanda is an Associate in the Family Law and Civil Litigation departments. She is passionate about her clients’ rights and sensitive to the emotional demands  experienced during what can be one of the most difficult periods in a person’s life.

The former Queen’s College Student obtained her Bachelor of Laws with Honors at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill (Barbados) Campus. While there Amanda was selected to be a UWISTAT ambassador representing the University locally and regionally.

She authored a ground breaking thesis on “Human Embryology and Fertilization” exploring the need for legislation regulating this area within the Caribbean.

In 2012 she obtained a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School where she also represented the Law School as an advocate Attorney, on the winning team in the highly anticipated Margret Forte Memorial Mooting Competition (a yearly competition between the Region’s Law Schools in a trial-style moot). Amanda, along with two team mates, received the Robert Mathieu Sellier Memorial Prize for best performance in Trial Advocacy and the Principals Award for Advocacy. 

In 2016 she obtained her Masters of Law (LLM) from Howard University School of Law.

Amanda has also participated in several extra-curricular initiatives including the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington DC and New York, the Global Young Leaders Summit in Australia in 2007 and attended the 20th Annual Commonwealth Law Conference held in South Africa 2013.

 

Raisa Woodstock

RAISA ST. CLARE WOODSTOCK LODENQUAI  J.D.

Raisa Woodstock Lodenquai was awarded the Legal Education certificate from the Norman Manley Law School in April, 2016 and called to the Jamaica Bar on July 21st, 2016. She was also called to the Barbados Bar in 2016. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and the St. Thomas University School of Law where  she made the Dean’s List and was awarded the CALI book awards for Advanced Legal Writing and Alternative Dispute Resolution.  She was admitted to the International Human Rights Law Review as an editor and mentor and was a member of International Law Moot Court team from 2012-2014.

Raisa was Junior Ambassador at the United Nations in New York where she participated in a number of bilateral and multilateral negotiations at various conventions.  She also aided Ambassador Eden Charles of the Permanent Mission of Trinidad and Tobago with research relating to the Arms Trade Treaty as well as for the Law of the Sea Convention.

After graduating with her Juris Doctor in May 2014, Raisa successfully sat the required Florida Bar Examinations in July 2014 and was inducted to the Florida Bar in November 2014.  She is a Notary Public in the State of Florida.

As a student and an attorney, Raisa has made it her main motivation to help persons in need.  She is an active participant in Lawyers To The Rescue, an organization designed to bring legal assistance and humanitarian support to people around the world regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or political affiliation.
